We started out with the vision to establish a small artisan winery producing wines of great character and sophistication that reflect the true nature of our unique terroir and traditional varieties and our respect for the environment. The first step was to find the right plots with the potential to fulfill our vision. |
|
After a thorough search we decided on „Barakonyi” and „Csirke-mál” near Bodrogkisfalud. Planting started in 1999 and the second phase in 2004. Total territory under vine is 6 hectares.
We strongly believe that winemaking begins in the vineyard - quality of grapes is the single most important factor in producing great wines. We undertake a severe pruning regime, shoot and bunch thinning hence our production is just 17-19 quintals per hectare. Most of our wines are barrel fermented and are aged in barrels for several months, in some cases years. All our wines are aged in bottles for at least 3-6 months before release.
The winery operates in the centre of Bodrogkeresztúr in a listed property dating from the 19th century. The traditional peasant house was completely renovated and restored to its former state in 2005. The press house is complemented by a traditional underground cellar where our Aszú wines are aged.

| 2009 – a two-faced vintage |

| This vintage made a unique joke with us. In the first part of harvest from the wonderful grapes we could produce rich, substancial dry wines. Muscat Blanc (Sárga muskotály) brings intense aromas in nose, single vineyard wines from „Barakonyi” are very dense. Kövérszőlő’s floral-fruity aromas are reminding for the outstanding 2006. After this nice period we waited the shriveling and „aszú” formation, but due to continous rainy period it did not come. Early frost in November finished the harvest, thus from this vintage there are no late harvest and Aszú wines at our estate. It is stange, that besides Kövérszőlő there are no sweet wines in the cellar! |
